Leadership Transition
A message from Land Together Executive Director, Andrew Winn
Dear Land Together Community,
I’m writing to share an important update: I will be stepping down from my role as Executive Director of Land Together to focus on caring for my father, whose health needs have recently and significantly escalated. While this transition has been thoughtfully planned for some time, circumstances have required us to move the timeline up.
I’m proud of the work we’ve done together at Land Together—from expanding in-prison programs to deepening our impact in reentry and environmental justice—and I’m deeply grateful for the trust and collaboration of so many staff, partners, and funders throughout my time here.
I’m also pleased to share that Karen Hsueh, our Deputy Director, will be stepping in as Interim Executive Director. Karen has been with the organization for nearly a decade and brings a strong combination of strategic leadership, organizational knowledge, and a deep commitment to Land Together’s mission. I have full confidence in her ability to guide the organization forward.
During this transition, I will remain available in an advisory capacity to support Karen and the team as needed. It has been an honor to serve as Executive Director, and I remain committed to advancing justice, healing, and opportunity for people impacted by incarceration.
If you have any questions during this time, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Karen directly at karen@landtogether.org.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Warmly,
Andrew Winn
A message from Land Together Board Chair, Marlin Jeffreys
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to take a moment to express deep appreciation for Andrew Winn and reflect on this important transition at Land Together.
During his tenure, Andrew shepherded Land Together through a period of significant growth and transformation. He led the expansion of our in-prison and reentry programs which deepened our reach and impact across California. Under his leadership and that of Karen Hsueh, our Deputy Director, we underwent a successful rebrand and name change—emerging as Land Together—a bold move that reflected our broadened mission and ambitious long-term vision.
We are also incredibly fortunate to have Karen stepping in as Interim Executive Director. Karen brings not only strong leadership but a deep connection to the heart of our work. Her knowledge of the organization, strategic clarity, and relationships with staff, partners, and community make her uniquely equipped to guide us through this transition with care and confidence.
On behalf of the entire board, I want to express our deepest appreciation for Andrew’s years of service and commitment. We look forward to this next chapter and are confident in the future of Land Together.
With gratitude,
Marlin Jeffreys
