Avenal State Prison Mural Completed
As part of our in-prison programming, we’re proud to share the completion of a powerful new mural at Avenal State Prison. This project deepens our commitment to healing arts and creative transformation inside.
Funded by the California Arts Council and led by Fresno-based artist James Graham, the mural was designed with and by participants inside the prison. Together, they transformed a barren wall into a vibrant expression of hope, identity, and resilience.
The process was as meaningful as the final artwork. Participants engaged in dialogue, reflection, and storytelling, using creativity as a pathway to healing while painting side by side in a shared space of trust and collaboration.
We are deeply grateful to the California Arts Council for believing in this work and making this project possible. And to the artists and participants inside: thank you for your vision, vulnerability, and leadership. This mural stands as a testament to what is possible when creativity and community come together.
Healing through art. Transformation through connection.
