Sol Mercado joins Land Together

Sol came to this work the way a lot of our strongest leaders do. As a participant.

She grew up in a family with agricultural roots. During 16 years at Central California Women's Facility, she found her way to our program and helped build gardens the women there used for reflection and remembrance. Since coming home, she's worked as reentry coordinator at Planting Justice, the Oakland food justice and urban agriculture organization, supporting people through work at the nursery. Her story appears in the documentary Sol in the Garden, and she's shared it widely on panels and at events.

Now she's our Northern California Reentry Coordinator, meeting people at the gate and staying with them through everything that comes next: housing, work, community, and the slow work of healing.

Outside of work, you'll find her with her daughter, outdoors, or tending her plants.
